You love trees, I love trees, we all love trees. What we don’t like are the drooping dead diseased branches that gives the overall tree a craggy look. Not good for the property nor the tree. You could hire a tree trimming service to come out and prune the tree for you, but expect to pay upward of around $300 for the job. This becomes even more of an issue if you have multiple trees on your property that need pruning. If your like me and want to save some money, why not do it your self? What kind of tree trimming tools would you need?
The first step if your new to tree pruning is to research exactly what tree trimming involves. How big are the trees that need to be serviced? I would then look up exactly how to use a pole saw (if you need too). Now its off to find the right tools for the job.
Remington Ranger 8-Amp 10-inch Electric Chainsaw/Pole Saw Combo
This chainsaw and pole combo is now rated the highest AND is one of the best sellers on this list, currently on sale for $99 dollars. This is a plug in model that can function as a chain saw or a pole saw.
With an eight amp electric motor this is also one of the most powerful of any electric saws we have reviewed. You should be able to cut up to 9 inch diameter branches with this monster. This saw also comes with an extension allowing a staggering 15 foot reach. This is just an amazing saw all the way around.
The only draw back (if you can call it that) is how powerful this chainsaw/pole saw is. Unless you have a lot of upper body strength it may be too hard to handle when trying to cut those high branches.
Its almost un-believable the value you get for how much money this saw is being sold for. This a definite on our list of tree trimming tools.
Fiskars 32-Inch PowerGear Bypass Lopper
Number one best seller in its class, this is a manual lopper designed specifically for cutting tree branches. Sometimes having the right tool for the job can make all the difference and this is that tool. You can find this on sale for about $37 dollars.
Like most Fiskars pole saws, this lopper light and easy to work with. This is an amazing piece of technology that is engineered to give you more than 3 times cutting power than normal loppers, which should be more than enough for any branch 2 inch and smaller in diameter.
The only draw back is tied to the best feature. The ability to give so much power when cutting means that the handles have to be opened wide, wider than normal loppers. If you are working in a small area this could be a problem (lots of brush), otherwise its a good feature that gives the loppers the cutting leverage to finish the job quickly.
Black & Decker Alligator Lopper 4.5 Amp Electric Chain Saw
If you’re looking for a good pair of loppers that are a little less manual then you should try this electric chain saw alligator lopper. The head of the lopper may remind you of something out of the Jurassic period, but rest assured this tool can handle most branches up to 4 inches in diameter. It is a plug in model. If your fast you can find it on sale for only $80 dollars.
The way these alligator loppers cut are unique. Inside the teth you will find an electric chain saw. You place the branch in the teeth and push both handles together which forces the chainsaw through the branch. Innovative and cool to watch!
Unlike a manual lopper this unit will require a little maintenance. This unit does need oil for the chain on the saw. Ensure that you always clean the loppers after every use and it will last for a long time.
Gardenite Ratchet Pruning Shears
Who sais tree trimming supplies always have to be for 100 foot trees? No need to overkill the job, sometimes all you need is a handy pair or shears. Great for gardens and smaller trees around your property, you can pick these amazing Gardenite shears for about $25 dollars.
With this shear you should easily be able to cut through 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch branches. Your going to need to have big hands to cut 3/4 inch, since the shear handles will have to be fully extended. But that’s to be expected.
In our experience, Gardenite has some of the best customer service helpers in the industry, if you have any issues don’t be afraid to contact them.
Corona RS 7265 Razor Tooth Folding Pruning Saw, 10″ Curved Blade
Want to save a little money vs buying a powered tree trimmer? These little saws are better for the budget minded folks who still need to trim there tree branches and don’t mind a little manual labor. These saws run about $20 dollars and are specially designed for pruning. This particular model is the best selling of its class. You could be able to cut through a 4 inch branch within a minute. This models size makes it idea to take with you as you work.
The biggest downside to these are that you can only cut where your arm can reach. Expect to use a ladder if you need to prune branches higher in the tree. One of the other complaints is that with wet wood this saw tends to bind, since its teeth do not alternate from side to side.
Pruning a tree does not have to an arduous process. With the right tree trimming tools you can complete the job fast and safely
