A couple months ago we received a letter from our home owners insurance indicating that they were going to drop us from our current plan. We were told it was because there were too many tree branches close to our house and that is was a fire hazard. We live in a rural forested area prone to wild fires and surrounding our house is a mixture of pine and Douglas fir trees, and yes some of the branches from these trees were just close enough to the house to cause problems. We wanted to stay electric and not have to fuss around with a gas powered trimmer saw. So we started looking for tree trimming saws electric based.
Benefits of using an electric tree trimmer over a gas powered trimmer:
- Less noise pollution. If you live in a neighborhood and sounds are an issue, electric saw are perfect.
- Better for your health. The gas fumes can cause health problems, especially if you’re reaching for that high branch with the motor running next to your head, almost breathing right out of the exhaust. No thank you.
- Less of a mess. Electric trimming saws still need bar and chain oil, but you don’t have to worry about the gas & oil fuel.
- Power. If you’re worried about power, electric tree trimmers can be just as powerful and useful as their gas powered cousins.
- Better for the environment. No fumes = cleaner air to breath.
Sun Joe 40-volt Cordless Chain Saw, 8-Inch, 4-Amp
This battery operated saw runs off of a 40 volt battery which should give around 40 minutes of operation before recharging. Like a lot of other battery operated saws, it’s always a good idea to have spare battery charged and ready to go.
One of the features we did not like about this pole saw was its length. It is adjustable from about 6 to 10 feet which sounds great but short compared to other saws of the same price.
One of the major benefits of this saw besides the crazy battery power is how light it is. Weighing close to 11 pounds this was a pretty easy pole saw to work with.
This pole saw is more expensive than many of its counterparts, cost around but after weighing all the benefits, seemed justifiable.
Earthwise 8-Inch 6 Amp 2-in-1 Electric Chain Saw/Pole Saw Combo
This was the cheapest electric chain pole saw on our list at about $70 dollars. The biggest benefit from this saw besides the price was that it can be used as either a poll saw or a chain saw. This is a plug in saw and does not run off of batteries.
Used as a pole saw, it has about a nine and a half foot length, which is decent for smaller jobs. The pole itself is telescopic which means that is falls in on its self for easy storage and extension.
The chain saw motor is 6.5 amp and can cut up branches up to about 6 inches in diameter.
The biggest complaint are the plastic pieces that make up the saw. It’s unbelievable how much utility you can get out of a saw this cheap, but when plastic pieces start to break of the price makes sense. If you take care of this saw, then it should not be much of a problem.
Remington Branch Wizard Plus 10-Inch 8 Amp 2-in-1 Electric Chain Saw/Pole Saw Combo
This is another chain and pole saw hybrid which goes for about $100 dollars on sale. This pole saw can reach up to 15 feet using a telescopic pole. This is a plug in model and does not run off a of battery which gives it more power allowing you to cut medium size branches.
This particular saw offers a low kick back chain. While its nice to have a low kick back chain that also means it will dull faster. We would recommend upgrading the chain asap for optimal cutting power.
With such a long reaching pole, ensure that you are not standing under the branch when you cut it, always stand off to the side while cutting.
Overall this is a fantastic chain/pole saw combination.
Black & Decker 6.5-Amp Corded Pole Saw, 10-Inch
This Black and Decker pole saw is a plug in model. It can extend up to about 10 feet and uses a low kick back chain. The motor is 6.5 Amps of awesome and has a low profile which makes it easier to see what you’re cutting. With a motor this powerful you can cut up large branches without much of a fuss.
This saw did not need a large amount of assembly. Make sure you have an ample supply of bar and chain oil, this pole saw eats through it quickly.
The biggest drawback is the length, which will require standing on a ladder for harder to reach branches. But its made up for with how light the saw is to handle.
This is an all around great corded saw, which is on sale for about $99 dollars.
Earthwise 16-Inch 12 amp Electric Chain Saw
I am extremely content with the ease of operation of this cutting tool. At the cost it did precisely what I used it for. I expected to cut branches around 10 inches thick and a handsaw was simply not going to get it done, by me anyway. Its a decent size and not very bulky. I unwrapped it, filled up the chain oil reservoir with engine oil I might add, according to the instructions that works fine and I’m here to report that it did work fine. It is pretty lightweight and deceptively powerful it went through all the branches easily, I had a big pile of wood much quicker than I anticipated.
The Earthwise CS30016 16-Inch 12 amp Electric Chain Saw is a great tool for jobs around the house. I highly recommend it. The price for the quality is insane, only $64 dollars.
There are several benefits of using an electric tree trimmer over a gas powered trimmer. They are not as noisy, better for your health, less of a mess and overall better for the environment. If these are a concern for you, then you should make sure you own a good tree trimming saws electric based. If you still need a little more power, you could convert over to gas based, there are some excellent Husqvarna trimmer attachments available.
